VERY OVERPRICED AND DISAPPOINTING!. My husband and I went for dinner on a Saturday evening with a 7:45 p.m. reservation. We had gone to the restaurant several months ago, also on a weekend, and had found ourselves one of only 4 couples there. The food had been poor and we had left with a bill for two (no alcohol) of well over $100 -- way too high for the quality and experience. The restaurant had the feel of a place going under. Still, we thought perhaps it was just an off night so we decided to try again. We noticed the promotions for "January Stew Specials" and thought we might have better timing. The good news for them: There were more people -- The restaurant was maybe half-full. According to our waitress, they were surprised and overwhelmed by the turn-out (which was low compared to most restaurants on a Saturday night). Even by 7:45, they already were sold out of the one of the big draws, "Beef Tenderloin Stew". I ordered corn and seafood chowder -- always one of my favorite items and with a great description on the menu -- but thought it was inedible (like poor canned soup); when our waitress saw that I wasn't eating it, she whisked it away but charged us anyway. The rest of the food was less than mediocre and, again, we emerged with a sky-high tab. We will never return. With so many excellent restaurants in Louisville, it's tough to determine why anyone goes there at all.
It's fallen a LONG LONG way. This is what happens when a restaurant becomes popular and the chef appears not to care anymore. This used to be one of my favorite spots to dine in Louisville. My last visit was just that... my last visit. The service was two steps below indifferent. Food was dropped on the table, the food was thrown out of the kitchen with no attempt to meet the order in which it was supposed to be served. The lobster, a special for the evening, was beautifully presented, but had all of the mouth appeal of a rubber band. The chef is now back involved with the Oakroom, and apparently he's spreading himself too thin. Pity. The Limestone was a good restaurant in its day; the day has passed!
great food and service. best in the area!! Great local foods. The chef really takes pride in using local foods and recipes. The service is always good and the menu does change frequently. They will also modify the menu for your personel desires. They really do a great job! Sunday brunch is wonderful! Looked for the homemade French toast!! melts in your mouth
Very disappointing! We have eaten there twice and we will not be going back. The first time it was at Derby and anyone from Louisville knows any restaurant can get 'slammed' this time of year so even though we experienced slow service the first time we thought we would try it again.
The second time, with reservations: We experienced very slow, poor service. Drinks were not refilled until we asked. The server and assistant reached over the table eight different times instead of walking around. While other tables around us came and went and were served we sat for an hour and half waiting on our entrees. When they finally arrived they were cold and over cooked. There were four of us in the party. We ordered, salmon, sea bass, the filet with crab cake and sea scallops. The salmon base was served and I was told this is the base your salmon is coming. (CRAZY!) Why serve half a dinner and tell the guest the rest is coming? They should have kept it. When it did come 6 minutes later it was dry, overly salty and over cooked.
At this point we asked for the manager. He lamely asked: ?so you had a problem with the salmon?. He offered to bring something else (we did not have two hours more to wait) when I declined he offered a free desert. After two hours I was ready to be out of there! So for $35 I had a cocktail, a salad and a very poor memory of this place!
In complete fairness the guest who ordered the filet and crab cake enjoyed it. This is usually served with a shrimp cake but this guest had the crab cake for which she was charged $5 extra.
We love to eat out (it is our entertainment) and love a good meal. Unfortunately, we have not found it at Limestone.
Great atmosphere & great food!. I've been here several times with my boyfriend and his family when we come into Louisville from Charlotte. I have to say that I've always enjoyed eating here. Everything is always fresh & very good. The restaurant is beautifully decorated & comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place!
