Among other things, we were waiting and waiting for our bill for about 20 minutes after our food was cleared. I looked up to see our waitress having a soda and a sandwhich over a book in the front of the cafe. REALLY?? I had to go up and request our bill from the manager.
Their bread is a Dentist's Dream!!. We are from New Orleans and KNOW what REAL french bread is supposed to taste and feel like. In our opinion, this Blue Dog Bread could be used as a weapon! Does anyone in Louisville know how to make a loaf of REAL crusty on the outside and delicious soft bread inside?? WE have tried for years to find a loaf in Louisville that would not crack all our teeth and so far nothing! How do you people eat this stuff? If anyone ever opened a bakery with REAL eatable french bread here, Blue Dog would have to run for the hills, in our opinion. I guess you don't miss what you have never had but we sure do!
Awesome bread, could use more customer service. Blue Dog bread and food is delicious, and the restaurant/cafe is adorable in a picturesque part of Louisville called Crescent Hill. You can simply pick up a loaf of bread or two, or maybe some croissants, or you can dine in. The dine-in menu is expensive (think $12 for french toast) but very delicious if you are prepared to splurge on a rich brunch. The sandwiches are awesome as well. Sometimes the service is slow, but they usually are good with filling up the coffee mugs with delicious Illy coffee. Often you may wait to get seated, even when it doesn't seem crowded, which doesn't really bother me, because when I go there it is usually a time investment of an hour or more-- so I'm not in a rush. I wish Blue Dog were open on Sundays, I'm not certain why they would want to miss out on that revenue they could make, but we can't have everything.
True Louisville Delight. Delicious in every sense of the word. With a unique menu and friendly staff, this is absolutely a top favorite of mine. Get your taste buds ready for a treat to remember. P.S. Be sure and get one of their cookies for dessert. Yum!
The WORST. This was one of the worst dinning experiences I have ever had. The service is terrible and the kitchen staff cannot get evan a simple order right. I will never go back and would not recommend this cafe to anyone. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
A well-kept secret. Lot's of people think Blue Dog only makes bread - it's what you see in the grocery stores, and lots of favorite local restaurants serve Blue Dog bread. If you think the bread's good, you've got to visit the cafe. Everything's made fresh every single day - pastries and all. The sandwiches are creative and really tasty while still being very reasonably priced. They've got a decent wine list and the staff is able to make suggestions on what wines pair well with different menu selections. When you've finished eating, check out the display counters - I dare you to not take something home...it's all delicious.
If they're rude, it's because you're ridiculous.. If you only go in there to buy a drink, you can expect to get funny looks BECAUSE YOU'RE CRAZY. Go to the coffee house next door! It's right there, and they make a great hot chocolate, and they'll serve it to you right over the counter. If you want incredible food, Blue Dog is for you. I recommend the turkey sandwich, and the chocolate mousse. And look at the floors you'll find they're spotless. It's that way in the whole restaurant.
Second Class Customers. I recently visited the Blue Dog Bakery and Cafe, looking for coffee on a cold day. As soon as I communicated to the waitress that we only wanted drinks, her countenance changed to one of frustration that conveyed a sense of inconvienience on her behalf. She and the other server seemed "put out" that we were only having drinks. We ordered five hot chocolates and a coffee and were brought six hot chocolates. The coffee arrived a few minutes later, along with another attitude of frustration that somehow we were to blame for their lack of communication in the kitchen. As a customer, I have seldom been treated with such a lack of respect and consideration. Bread is not the only thing served free at the Blue Dog- expect a basket of rudeness and contempt to go along with your order.
True French bread in Louisville. Who would have thought that a bakery like this would exist in Kentucky! This one churns out better bread than SF's La Brea or NYC's Sullivan Street Bakery.
