Excellent I Miss It Dearly! – I lived in Louisville for 13 years and The Grape Leaf was my favorite restaurant in the entire city and considering the fact that I ate out more than I ate at home, that's saying a lot.
The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is the service, it has been bad at times. Now, I have to say that I generally picked my food up and took it home most of the time, but I have dinned there on several occasions and the service has been bad. The servers seemed to be inexperienced and on occasion, rude. Since I don't have the heart to stiff someone on a tip I always tip between 10 and 25 percent, based on the service. I never left a tip for more than 15 percent at this place, the food is excellent but they need to shore up their service!
Relaxing & Quiet atmosphere – We were looking to try Mediteranian food, chose Grape Leaf. Side street parking. Tastefully decorated, well kept, and clean. Wonderful hostess/server. The suggestions and help with the chef's specials were well received by most, however there was a spice (cinnamon - maybe, not sure) that was in all lamb dishes ordered (maybe that's all mediteranian dishes - new to the flavour) . A variety of vegetarian dished. Big burrito, huge portions on every meal - worth the money. YOU GOTTA TRY: the bean dip appetizer platter. Everyone enjoyed theirselves, and the staff was 5 stars. Our son thought we had taken him to a 5 star restaraunt - overall, I would definately revisit again.
Angry Server Chases After Customers – For four years I have been recommending The Grape Leaf on Frankfurt to anyone who will listen. No more. After my experience there Saturday night, I will never eat there again, and hope to dissuade as many people as possible from doing the same.
The food has always been good--the customer service, iffy. Saturday night, we had a particularly argumentative server who was rude, condescending, and plain wrong on several points. We tried to be polite, but it didn't help. (We were on the patio, and she was obviously put out by having to shlep our food out there.)
We gave her no tip, because it seemed kinder than complaining to her manager, and we weren't in the mood for a confrontation. As we got into our car, we saw the waitress run across a busy city street, our ticket in hand, to yell at us for stiffing her on the tip. We explained that her rudeness was the reason for no tip, and she insisted she had been more than polite. As we drove away, stunned, flabbergasted, she yelled an obscenity after us.
This was done in front of a crowded dining room (the front of the restaurant is all glass, so you can watch the passerbys), with several of the waiting staff looking on. No one attempted to stop this woman from harrassing us, nor did they seem concerned.
I have not yet called the management to complain--we were too frightened and shaken Saturday night to go back. But I definitely will. And I will most certainly be looking for a new Meditteranean restaurant in Louisville.
Hummus is out of this world, but be sure to ask for hot sauce- it deffinitely takes it to extraordinary heights! – The food here is healthy with a capital H, including the portions. All the foods on the best for the body list will be found; fresh lemon juice, olive oil, avocados, organic greens, almonds, pine nuts, parsley, pomegranates, dates, fresh garlic and too many more to name. I love this place and am a regular-can you tell? On busy nights be prepared for a possible wait on your food.
Great Greek Food – Awesome greek food, treat yourself to something different in Louisville, worth the trip off the beaten path for most out of towners. I am very picky, and I will go back to the Leaf the next time I am in the Ville!!
A great taste of something different – Food is excellent and cooked in a very similar way to traditional Mediterranean. Price is reasonable. Service is ok.
Nice outdoor setting if weather is nice.
