Since 1955, this Atlanta-based chain has welcomed an all-hours crowd of shift workers, suits, regulars and late-night partiers with comfy booths and an extensive menu of Southern-accented home-style grub. Waffles (pecan or regular) are the restaurant's most popular dish. Other breakfast favorites include porterhouse T-bone steak and eggs, country ham, and signature hash browns cooked seven ways, from smothered with onions to topped with chili or cheese. Another bargain is the bowl of chili, which comes topped with onions, ham and cheese.

great food -- but. The cheese and mushroom omlets are to die for. Food is consistently good, and price-wise this place deserves to be included in the category of "best cheap eats." However, non-smokers need to beware. There are no areas in this chain designated as "smoke-free." It seems that 90% of the customers puff away freely, making breathing miserable for the rest and destroying the taste of the food.
