Thanksgiving meal was horrible. Really dissapointed with the Thanksgiving meal buffet.Food was semi warm, service was marginal and they even charged additional for a small dessert. I could go on and on, but I don't recommend any of the holiday buffets. When I sent the resturaunt an email and received a call from them they wanted to argue the point rather than accept constructive criticism. The price was high for the quality and choices were limited.

Lots of gristle in steak. I ordered a petite fillet mignon. I could only eat half as I got 3 large pieces of gristle. My medium well steak was scorched on the top and bottom and too pink on the inside. Hard rolls, too

Lousy food. We ate there once the food was awful would not recommend it to anyone. Usually will go back and try again this was so bad and so expensive not worth a return trip. Steak was not done as ordered rare. Vegitables were tough and over cooked. Simply plain down right un appetizing food

Sirloin was no good. My wife and I have visited 4 times. The first 3 were good but the last was awful. The last time was 5 JAN 08 and it was the same night as the Louisville vs Kentucky game and business was slow. The steak was not marinated at all and really that is the reason we went. They use a soy sauce marinate and it is really good. The steak was really tough. We ordered mushrooms and when the arrived the looked like the was right out of the can and into the microwave. We told the waitress and she didn't charge us for the mushrooms and even gave us a piece of Cheese cake to split...I really hate Cheese cake. A restaurant that wants to remain a high caliber place for the up and moving should at least make sure that every night is a dining experience for the customer. The salt and pepper shakers on our table look like they were from a small town Diner and even had dents on the caps.

Fine dining in a Comfortable atmosphere. As a child I visited John E's quite frequently with my parents, yet these were the days of chicken fingers and pepperoni pizza. Now that my taste buds have matured and my interest in food is heightened I have made the pilgramage to John E's once again. The waitress provided me with a water as well as a citrus butter accompanied by sesame crackers while I decided what I would like to drink. A glass of a cab.-shiraz combo accompanied my steak and lobster special beautifully. The 6 oz. petite filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the 6-7 oz. Maine Lobster tail was gone before I could even say lobster (the clarified butter was kept warm by candle while eating). To accompany the meal I had a ceaser salad and a stuffed baked potaoe (twice baked). Since it was a Friday night, the restaurant featured music in the patio room in which I was seated. The saxophone and voice of a lovley older woman only added to the already pleasent atmosphere. Only complaints would be that the dining area was slightly crowded while customers were allowed to dance in the aisles. I would suggest that they have a designated dancing area to allow servers room to do their job (get me my food fast). Other than that all was well, to top my meal off I enjoyed a warm derby pie topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup, ahhh Kentucky.

VERY Disappointed. I have been to John E's before but it has been several years. I never had a problem before but was very unsatisfied this trip. Enough that I won't return anytime soon. We had reservations for Mother's Day - there were 12 of us. The waitress, who never did introduce herself, came to the table to provide silverware and then left. She returned a bit later and asked what everyone would like. We knew of course that there was a buffett but had wondered if there was a menu, we had not been given one. She answered that there was, no smile or emotion of any kind, returned with a pile of menus she placed on the table and left. We passed them around ourselves. Everyone but 2 children got the buffett. The woman never cracked a smile and hardly spoke. We obviously put her out when we asked her to please explain the check she had written with all 12 people combined. After much pleading she figured out who owed what, wrote it down, and gave it to us to figure out which figure belonged to who.

This server got almost a $32 tip for bringing us drinks, never cracking a smile, not doing one little bit more than she absolutely had to do, and making it very clear that we were incoveniencing her. You see, 18% was automatically added to the tab. I used to be a server and know how important their tips are. I usually am a pretty generous tipper. But this woman would have been lucky to get 10% from me if I had been free to calculate my own tip.

Editorial Review by Christy Buena. Restaurant and lounge offers traditional American cuisine and steaks served in a 19th century log cabin.

Great food and atmosphere. I have had dinner and lunch here and both were terrific. Dinner was in the romantic upscale side and offered many different delicious menu choices. Lunch was in the more casual patio side and again offered many tempting treats.
