Their avacado tempora rules. It is owner run, and it shows. A long time ago, the owner made sushi for the Seafood Connection, and it was awsome there too when she was there. I highly recommend this place.
A unique local spot with great food and a relaxed atmosphere. I visited Maido last Friday night and had such a great experience. The atmosphere was very relaxed; we loved the music. Our server made drink and food recommendations that were spot on, and our food came out quickly and was delicious. After dinner we headed out to their patio to sit by one of the outdoor fireplaces and have some sake. It really was a perfect night. We plan on going back very soon, and will probably bring the kids this time. I also heard that they are going to start offering a "recession-proof" happy hour menu this weekend, so I can't wait to check that out.
Sushi is as sushi does. This is my first review. I have never had the urge to write a bad review before, but last night was the second bad experience I have had at this sushi bar, so I'm not biting the bullet this time! First off the service is horrible and it has been every time I've been here. I could have flown to Tokyo, caught my own *real* crab, taken it to someone to magicly transform it into a sushi roll by the time we finally got served (not really, but you get the point). My fiance finally got his miso soup about 10 minutes after our rolls were served and it was barely luke-warm. I say *real* crab because what was inside my roll was that weird layered rolled immitation "crab meat" that you can get for $2.50 from your local supermarket's seafood section. I don't know if we look like we crawled out from under a rock and decided to try out sushi for the first time, but I know what real crab is supposed to look, taste and cost like. We also ordered a kids dinner which had the greasiest chicken I have ever had, plus it was way over done. On the up side, their sushi is very beautiful to look at! I can tell you this for a fact because we had to wait for about 5 minutes with our food in front of us before they brought us those little dishes you put soy sauce in. Usually I wouldn't let this bother me but when you go for sushi it usually cost at least $60 or way more so the service should be spot on. It was a disaster. For 3 adults and one child to eat (and not drink) it was $93 + tip. They totally bent us over on this deal! I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone, unless it's someone I don't like very much.
Fabulous sushi but horrible service.
Maido has some of the best sushi in Louisville at reasonable prices. Their menu contains the tried and true rolls such as California (with real crab meat) but they will also surprise you with their creativity and unique combinations. I've never been disappointed with any of the selections although I have my favorites such as the osaka blue tuna or sunshine infusion (yellow tail infused with orange & lemon zest).
In contrast to the exceptional food, their service is pathetic. During our last visit we had reservations but still waited almost 2 hours after sitting down before everyone in our party was served. The situation reminded me of a bad "punk'd" episode - we had to borrow menus from neighboring dinners, search for chopsticks and when our meals finally arrived they were without any wasabii. And did I mention the horde of flies landing on our table and drinks? Throughout this whole experience we repeatedly tried to gain the assistance of our server and finally went to the owner with our pleas but it didn't appear that anyone was interested in or concerned about our situation.
Truth is Maido's sushi is so phenomenal that I know I'll return at some point in the future. But the next time I'll cancel all plans for the evening, pack some chopsticks and request an indoor table.
Best Sushi in Louisville. I was blown away with the quality of sushi here. The portions are huge, very fresh and beautifully put together. The atmospere is perfect...good for groups or couples.
Great place, sushi, great patio!.
Maido is quickly becoming one of my favorite stops for sushi, both because of the quality of the dishes and the services/atmosphere.
The menu has a wide range of dishes, not only sushi but others as well. The decor is nice, but not overpowering. I?ve never been let down with the service, and the wait staff really know the menu?not just have their generic recommendations. The dishes from the menu are prepared and served with care. The dishes have great combination of taste, texture, and presentation.
During the warmer months, I would recommend the outside patio seating, as that area of Frankfort still has quiet people-watching.
The only downside is the smaller inside dining area makes large groups (6+) almost impossible, not only for those in the group, but for other patrons who seem to be forced into their conversations and antics.
