Catttt

by Cattttt at Citysearch

A group of six of us had dinner at Ramsi's a few nights ago. Only one of us loved our dinner - the brisket was flavorful but the patato latkes served with it were horrid and made from a mix....the rest of the food was okay - a large plate of chicken and rice was flavorless....the prices are good - just wish they would bump up the flavors in the food.

  • Pros: Great ambiance (noisy though), great vegetables
  • Cons: bland food, really someone in charge needs to actually taste some of these bland dishes

If you don't like it...your too picky

by HornsFan15 at Citysearch

As someone who recently moved to the area, I have just started going to Ramsi's and love it. Ignore all the bad comments. Some people are just too hard to please. Maybe it was better, years ago, I don't no. The fact is, the food here is really good. No, it's not gormet, 5 star dining, but you're not paying for that. You can get a meal from $7 to around $20. Since we moved here last May, we have tried a lot of restaurants, and this is our favorite. We moved from Houston, where there are thousands of excellent restaurants, but we never found anything like Ramsi's. The variety, price, and quality is perfect. There is something for everyone here, even vegetarians. We had a group of 13 for my wife's birthday on 2/28/09, and everyone was pleased with their meal. The service was outstanding. We brought in a cake and they took care of that for us, even put the candles on it. They brought it out at dessert time and we all sang. Then they took the cake back, cut it up in even servings for everyone, put it on a plate, and garnished it with a sliced strawberry and strawberry sauce! We were not expecting them to go that far out of their way, especially since we were not purchasing their desserts. My wife had the tortellini and I had the fish with crab cakes, and they were both great. One person in our party had the lamb chops. He thought they were a little under cooked, but they took it back and cooked a little longer. He said they tasted really good, but still a little undercooked. Someone else had the Thai noodles and another person had the greek salad and both were enjoyed as well. That's really all I remember as specifics, but everyone did say that they were pleased with the food. I have had the Huevo chicken in the past and it is always great. The magician visiting individual tables was very nice and did not bother anyone who did not want to be entertained. Don't pay attention to the bad reviews. Only advice, do the call ahead seating if you have a group larger than 8.

  • Pros: Good food, fun atmosphere, great service
  • Cons: parking is a little tricky...but your ARE on Bardstown Road

Ruined by success

by ja_sone at Citysearch

There was a time when Ramsis Cafe on the World was the best little restaurant in the Highlands, back when Ramsi actively ran the place. But they have expanded several times since then, with each expansion diluting the service and quality of the food -- this is why I call success the kiss of death. These days, it's hit-or-miss. I too love the tortellini which usually comes out consistently good, but other dishes have, well, sucked. My advice: Peruse the menu with a critical eye and be mindful for dishes that the kitchen can't mess up.

  • Pros: Unique and varied menu
  • Cons: Consistency is a problem

Terrible Service

by poppinfreshfan at Citysearch

We were seated directly in front of the door when it was snowing outside. Every time the door opened the freezing wind was unbearable. Had the service been better, it may not have been so miserable. Our waitress

( we never got her name) was horrible, I do not understand how she continues to be employed by the service industry. Not only did she make herself scarce most of the time when she did appear, she got everything wrong. Ramsi's used to be my favorite place to go. I was utterly embarassed at the fact that this was the first time I brought my boyfriend & we were severly disappointed. We ordered a BBC Pale ALe & got a Bells Cream Stout these dont even sound the same much less look alike. The Moussa Kan was bland . The Polo Nuevo Havana should have came with a knife . A small salad & side of potatoes were six dollars extra . Entrees should come with sides . We are willing to give it another try so hopefully next time will be alot better ( We will refuse the same waitress)

A great neighborhood place!

by deirdretours at Citysearch

The perfect neighborhood restaurant: The broad menu offers something for everyone (my family's favorite is the Tortallini Graciella, a lush mix of pasta, tomatoes, broccolli and mushrooms in a cream sauce, chicken or shrimp optional). The staff definately dotes on small children and the quick service means most kids can make it through the meal without a breakdown. We usually eat before 6:30 and have now wait for a table, but if you must dine during peak hours, there is a terrific bookstore next door that you can entertain the kids in until your table is ready (and the hostess will come get you when it is time to be seated). There is a large room upstairs for groups/parties.

  • Pros: broad menu, great staff, unique character
  • Cons: crowded at peak hours

Consistently Great!

by perky386 at Citysearch

Ramsi's is a great, unique restaurant that never disappoints. Though it has it's drawbacks, such as almost always having a wait, there's a reason for this: people love it and come back for more. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun, the food is authentic and satisfying and the price is reasonable for what you get!

  • Pros: great unique food, reasonable, neat location
